The Power of Music in a Chandler Preschool Curriculum

While there are a lot of different things to learn at a Chandler preschool, one thing that most people take for granted is the power of music.

Why Does Music Matter at a Preschool in Chandler?

First off, music has a proven effect on people's emotional states, their cognitive abilities, memorization skills, and overall health.  Some parents sing lullabies to their children to get them to fall asleep.  And who doesn't drive their car without listening to some of their favorite music?
Children are exposed to music from the first time they come home from the hospital. Music is a presence in the lives of most children and is an important part of early childhood education.

Some preschool teachers even use music to help teach children.  Why?  Because again, music helps children to develop in other ways as well.  A lot of times, people are hesitant to teach with music because of a lot of misconceptions and myths.  For example, there is the belief that only the musically "gifted" should be exposed to music so that they will develop their abilities.
However, all children can be exposed to music.  Simple melodies are easy to memorize, and if someone can memorize something simple, over time, they can memorize more complex patterns as well.   Ever seen a bunch of preschoolers sing?  They are entirely not self-conscious.  They sing just for the joy of singing.  Preschool children enjoy nursery rhymes and songs.  For preschoolers, music making is also an important part of socialization.  Particularly if they learn a song together.

Early Childhood Education and Overall Development

Children who are exposed to music especially if they learn to sing songs develop a lot more quickly than children who aren't exposed to music. Neural pathways have been shown to develop more rapidly in people that listen to music in some capacity, and if they play it the effect expands exponentially. Exposure to music also helps children's math skills as well as help their cognitive development.
A good preschool curriculum should have some place for music in between the finger paints and circle time.  How is music used?  By teachers that care for one.  We honestly do care about your children's learning.  We keep our class sizes small which means that children learn better and there aren't any children who slip through the cracks.
A good preschool education includes a lot of different things, and different lessons.  One of the most important things that we can teach is music at our preschool in Chandler and our facility in Gilbert.

Early Childhood Development: Increasing Cognitive Abilities

So much happens as a part of early childhood development. One of the many changes that occur as a part of normal growth is the increase of cognitive abilities.  In short, the ability to think.

Children’s thinking changes dramatically in the first six years of life. While there is an age old debate about nature versus nurture, both of them have a part in cognitive development.  Nature is simple.  That's just biology and genetics.  Nurture on the other hand refers to the different environments that children are exposed to.   Home, visiting friends and family, and of course classes at a preschool in Chandler all have an effect on early childhood development including cognitive development.  But in the endless debate between nature and nurture and the interplay between them, what is surprising is how much children themselves shape their own cognitive development.
From birth children are aware of some things.  Studies have shown that children start to recognize their family members almost immediately and even look at the faces of their family members more than at strangers or family friends.  As they grow older, children's cognitive development grow a lot from their own contributions.  Parents enroll their children into a daycare or preschool, and this environment starts automatically causing children to grow and develop cognitively.  Teaching a child a song for example automatically starts causing memories to form.  And encouraging children to cooperate and exchange ideas also helps in cognitive development.  But what milestones show that cognitive development is taking place?

Early Childhood Education:  The Milestones You Should See

First off, every child develops at a different rate.  Take that into account as you read these milestones.  However, there are certain benchmarks such as knowing the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters, how to stack blocks, copy simple geometric shapes, understanding the concepts of "mine" or "his" or "hers"
In addition, as part of cognitive development, your child's imagination will likely start to grow as well.  Pretend play becomes more involved and interesting.  And it just keeps expanding from there, particularly with the right curriculum.  People look at children's physical growth with wonder, however, it is their minds that are growing even more than their bodies are during their time at preschool.
So give your child every chance you can to grow and develop.  Encourage them to read, and praise them when they do something right, and get them into an environment to stimulate them: a preschool in Chandler.

Socialization, according to this article excerpt: "Socialization is the process by which human infants begin to acquire the skills necessary to perform as a functioning member of their society, and is the most influential learning process one can experience.Unlike many other living species, whose behavior is biologically set, humans need social experiences to learn their culture and to survive." [VIEW SOURCE]
Socialization is a soft skill.  However, it can impact so many other levels of early childhood development, making it imperative to learn.  There's a very good reason why first five or six years of your child's life are so vitally important.  Did you know for example, that a lot of who and what your child will be is determined in this brief period of time?  They will learn the concepts of cooperation, fair play,  and self-control among so many other skills that will determine how they interact with others.
As we covered previously, during circle time, children take turns discussing and learn the rules of conversation. Children learn problem solving during role play, or stories about solving problems with friends.  During circle time, socialization is also encouraged and developed.  One of the other things that happens at our Chandler preschool is to develop your child's self-image, which intertwines with and supports positive socialization.

How Your Chandler Preschool Develops Your Children's Self-Image

A positive self-image and a positive attitude is one of those things that is often underplayed. Self-image is how we perceive ourselves.  It is not something that we are born with.  It is something that is developed over time and with exposure to the right sort of information.  Someone's self-image can be positive, giving a person confidence, or it can be negative, which means that they doubt themselves.  Teaching children to have a positive self-image is crucial to giving them the steps necessary to live a happy and fulfilling life.
There are several different ways to accomplish these goals.  One way is through positive reinforcement, and teaching children not to label themselves if they make a mistake. Another way that can help is to establish rapport and encourage children to set goals.  When they start achieving them, and are praised for doing so, it encourages them and they blossom.
So remember, one of the many things you want for your children is the right environment. We offer a positive, nurturing environment for your children at our preschool in Chandler.

As we covered previously, there are several things that help you to know that you have found the best Chandler preschool. One of the many things is a simple activity: circle time. In addition to language skills, socialization, as well as recognizing important concepts such as color, quantity, and size, circle time helps your children to develop physically as well.

Physical development is an important part of the education your child would receive at our preschool in Chandler. Physical development in children can be separated into large/gross motor development and small/fine motor development. What's the difference?
Large motor development is usually the larger muscles of the body, such as legs and arms. During circle time, children move and develop, as well as learn to control their bodies. They also learn where their own physical space begins on a mat, carpet square, etc. and where it ends. They also begin to learn to respect each the space of others. Fine motor development refers to the muscles of the hands. During circle time at our Chandler preschool, passing an item around as well as things such as puzzles help children develop their small muscles. In addition to motor development, there is yet another skill that children learn during circle time.

Social Development and Circle Time

During circle time, children take turns discussing and learn the rules of conversation. Children learn problem solving during role play, or stories about solving problems with friends. Circle time also helps children to increase their attention span over time.
Socialization is an important skill. Studies have shown that children that do not develop social skills appropriate to their age group will struggle a lot more in other areas of life, such as work, school, or even interpersonal relationships.  Yet one more reason to enroll your child in a Chandler preschool.
